  1. Another denier here without significant foundation, typical of the scientifically ignorant Righties.

Then for you it’s a good sunny day to drive SE a few miles and take a dip in the Atlantic. Or drive West and walk across the
    Chesapeake Bay :-D

  2. Climate change happens. It’s natural. It’s been happening since the dawn of time. Only an ignorant, scientifically retarded idiot would believe people cause it. And only a completely brainwashed village idiot would base economic activities on something we can’t control. Unless, that is his “religion” then blind faith is a required.

  3. Before you’re deleted yet again because you’re an obsessive-compulsive passive-aggressive, the reason why York, Editor and yours truly — among many others — poke fun at this subject is because Al Gore and numerous other climate alarmists predicted that snow and ice wouldn’t even be around by this time. There was even an entire article in a British paper which discussed how children “wouldn’t even know what snow is” by this year.

Also hilarious is how the term “global warming” has disappeared to be replaced by the nebulous “climate change,” the latter of which can be used for any phenomenon, and which is then pigeonholed into the former.

Climate change for the Perrys of the world isn’t only political, it’s a religion.

  4. Man-made climate change, i.e. global warming, is a scientifically proven fact!

It is absolutely not a fact! It is a model, a theory and in your case a religion but it is not a fact! Climate has changed and changed drastically before there were humans. Climate has changed and changed drastically before the Industrial Revolution. Climate will continue to change and in some cases change drastically regardless of what we humans do. For people like yourself to constantly deny the fact that we as humans have zero control over the planet, the sun, the galaxy and the universe is where the true “deniers” are to be found. You deny there is anything beyond the control of the state, the “superman”, the Party and the religion which you have replaced God with: Marxism. Your false religion has proved to be the cause of millions of deaths and millions who suffered needlessly under its yoke. And if you think that we are going to let the likes of you murder millions more, subject millions more to slavery and millions more to poverty on the belief that some moron concocted out of whole cloth to get a leftist grant from a leftist college you got another thing coming.

  5. Before the Editor eliminated Moralist’s tome, it said this in Part:

Doing a Moralist tactic, PROVE IT BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT TO EVERYONE HERE. And by the way – SUNSPOTS

  6. Ed Driscoll has the video — it’s kind of marginal — of former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore telling us in 2008 that, in five years, the North Pole would be pretty much ice free during the summer months.

In 2009, the esteemed Mr Gore hedged his bet a bit, saying that some scientists were seeing models which projected a 70% probability that the pole would be ice free during the summer in five years. Mr Gore, of course, took a private jet to this conference, spewing gobs of what he claims are climate changing emissions into the atmosphere.

Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet’s recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human-induced—cause, according to one scientist’s controversial theory.

Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.

In 2005 data from NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide “ice caps” near Mars’s south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.

Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of space research at St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.

    More at the link.

Of course, I’d say it’s probably due to all of the carbon emissions from the Spirit and Opportunity rovers we sent there!

  8. Then again, there are people like Ed Begley who believe in climate change and actually try to live a lifestyle which minimizes their pollution. Whether you agree with him or not, at least Mr Begley is taking what he says he believes seriously.

I may not agree with Ed, but I respect him for saying and doing what he preaches.

  11. First it was the Silent Spring, then Global Cooling, and then Global Warming, now it’s Climate Change, and each year after birds rejoiced when flowers again bloomed in April, and Spring showers again gave way to glorious Summer, which was invariably followed by the magnificent colors of Autumn, the usual gaggle of hysterical Sky-is-Falling ninnies concocted ever more elaborate fantasies to change the subject and to cover their chagrin while continuing to peddle the same old snake oil. Repent! The End is Near!

Since their predictions have always fallen flat (there never has been any real evidence of impending annihilation) the High Priests of Climate Catastrophe have resorted to elaborate falsifications to gull the public and shake loose more government grant money, thus the constant name changing and the idiotic attempt to claim the issue is settled science when the truth is their beliefs are every bit as fraudulent as those of modern cults pushing apocalyptic science fiction.

Proponents of Climate Change are philistines of the first water, liars on a grand scale, and lepers in the society of scientists. They are the cult leaders of a false religion, deceivers of the uninformed, and scoundrels peddling mass delusion as they pick the pockets of the easily frightened ignorant. And, like Jim Jones at Jonestown, or Marshall Applewhite at Heaven’s Gate, the Messengers of Deception more likely to resort to final solutions rather than see their sick subterfuge unmasked.

  12. I do not agree with Ed Begley one iota. And I don’t respect him any more than I would one who practices voo-doo or a witch doctor. However, it’s his life and he’s free to live it as he wishes. I wish the other “true believers” would grant us that right. As long as they don’t try to make us conform to their beliefs I have no problem. But we all know they can’t allow us to disagree, resistance is futile against the Borg.

  13. The biggest problem has been the hysteria of the global warming alarmists, and the way that they completely suckered the left into following along. It makes perfect sense to try to reduce pollution, and it makes perfect sense to try to find renewable energy sources.

But along came the Chicken Littles, telling us that the sky was falling, and that we had to do something drastic, something urgent, something which would make all of us poorer, and drastically overselling an unproven theory. It made them look like fools — and they are exactly what they looked like — and subjected their statements to the absolute mockery that they deserved.

And along with their screaming that the sky was falling, they demonstrated, for everyone to see, that they were unwilling to live by the restrictions that they said needed to be imposed on everyone else.

Al Gore is, as you’d expect, the biggest of the hypocrites. He was already a wealthy man, when he sold Current TV to Al Jazeera, owned by the Royal Family of Qatar. Mr Gore, who so vocally decries the pollution cause by burning petroleum, put about $100 million petrodollars in his pocket.

  14. It’s part of what differentiates liberals from conservatives at a level that is prior to any ideological labeling; a level right down in the core of their psychological makeup and drives.

I answered why; and you next ask for a deeper level of causation; seeking the very “why” of progressive emotional neediness, and for the progressives’ desire for social inclusion and participation above all else … above freedom, above self-direction, and above free association with freely chosen life-enhancing associates.

Hoagie, has a response which, hits essentially the same mark ” … perhaps in his own pathetic little way he is seeking your approval”; or, demanding your acceptance, failing that.

I think that if we look at the people we call progressives or liberals, without first labeling them, and then basing our judgments on what it is that they seek, we’ll have our answer handed to us. They demonstrate themselves to be psychological collectivists. They seek what they want, be it solace, comfort, ego expression, domination, etc. in a human collective. And for them, no voluntary system of human association will do, because as they well know, in a voluntary system of association both parties have to agree to be parties to the agreement.

I think this emotional neediness of theirs is clearly a personality trait that expresses itself in politics. That much I think is certain and not controversial.

How or why that mania for inclusion and collective identity develops in some people as a psychological prop or survival strategy, and not others, is another “why question” which I don’t have an answer to. Our long discussions here have demonstrated that on the basis of their own testimony, their views are not based on some deduction from an “objective” principle that can be defended as a moral imperative.

Maybe evolutionary psychology or genetics will eventually tell us “why”, or how, some portion of the human population came to be so social insect-like in their behavioral tendencies.

Yeah, so what’s the ideal climate we should be working toward?

Should it be that of 1,700 BC in Anatolia? Or maybe 1884 Colorado?

Do we want temperate forests in Patagonia? What is the ideal size and depth of the oceans? Where should the continents be? Can we stop them from messing things up by merging and breaking apart? How many additional coral atolls should be exposed by increased ice packs in Greenland in order to provide expanded South Seas kingdoms for those fat little brainless dictators driving around the ocean in used PT boats?

Only a handful of thousands of years ago there was a land bridge between Asia and the New World. What if aboriginal forest burning was in part responsible for the disappearance of Beringia? Who’s really responsible!!! Could it be, Saaataa … er the European male?

And by the way, who murdered the mastodons of Indiana and the giant marsupials of Australia, and what are we going to do about it?

  25. I for one am willing to impose the modest sacrifice of foregone car ownership and central heating for all registered Democrats, if that will help. Surely, they must be willing to lead the way …

  26. How or why that mania for inclusion and collective identity develops in some people as a psychological prop or survival strategy, and not others, is another “why question” which I don’t have an answer to.

I do. Power. Left wing ideology is driven solely by the lust for power, the desire to control others.

Just look at Perry. Once he found he could not persuade anyone through more civilized means, he began issuing threats. For all his claims of being a “Progressive”, his “Argument” boiled down to “Do as I say, or I’ll bash your face in!”

  27. I for one am willing to impose the modest sacrifice of foregone car ownership and central heating for all registered Democrats, if that will help. Surely, they must be willing to lead the way …

I’m planning to lead the way by having my fireplace chimneys cleaned of soot and creosote pollutants…………
…………. then I’ll be ready for the next ice storm by burning wood and anything else burnable to stay warm. That was my one prep mistake last week. But I had a propane campstove and made a nice pot of Crab Soup.

  28. The biggest problem has been the hysteria of the global warming alarmists, and the way that they completely suckered the left into following along.

The Left wasn’t “Suckered” into anything. They knew exactly what they were getting into when they signed on to global warming, and that’s because global warming fits their agenda perfectly. And that agenda is, as stated in my post above, the acquisition of ever more power and control. And what makes GW especially attractive to their agenda is that, being a supposedly “Global” problem, it thus requires a “Global” solution, thus allowing them to get around such pesky things as the US Constitution and national sovereignty generally. Which is something they’ve wanted for decades.

  29. Just to augment what I’ve said above (Re: the Left and power), here’s a repost of something I originally posted late last summer:

Political tags – such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth – are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. Robert A. Heinlein

  30. Which is something they’ve wanted for decades.

That’s something they’ve been doing for decades. We can start with the Federal Reserve to the New Deal to Obamacare. None of which are Constitutional in any respect. Frankly, I believe we are in a post-constitutional republic headed for a dictatorship of one party. After all, the head idiot has his pen and his phone! If that ain’t dictatorship then what is?

  31. The crux of the referenced National Geographic article is this:

Perhaps the biggest stumbling block in Abdussamatov’s theory is his dismissal of the greenhouse effect, in which atmospheric gases such as carbon dioxide help keep heat trapped near the planet’s surface.

He claims that carbon dioxide has only a small influence on Earth’s climate and virtually no influence on Mars.

But “without the greenhouse effect there would be very little, if any, life on Earth, since our planet would pretty much be a big ball of ice,” said Evan, of the University of Wisconsin.

Most scientists now fear that the massive amount of carbon dioxide humans are pumping into the air will lead to a catastrophic rise in Earth’s temperatures, dramatically raising sea levels as glaciers melt and leading to extreme weather worldwide.

Abdussamatov remains contrarian, however, suggesting that the sun holds something quite different in store.

“The solar irradiance began to drop in the 1990s, and a minimum will be reached by approximately 2040,” Abdussamatov said. “It will cause a steep cooling of the climate on Earth in 15 to 20 years.”

Thus, Abdussamatov is the contrarian to the conclusions of the vast majority of climate scientists who claim that global warming/climate change is primarily due to man’s activities (carbon dioxide omissions). Contradictions drive science. It remains to be seen if Abdussamatov’s conclusions are correct. We’ll certainly know as we move toward his predicted big freeze by 2040.

And yes, Yorkshire, I think you have “jumped the gun”, prematurely.

  32. Most scientists now fear

That is NOT IRON CLAD Proof. Bet you DIDN’T Read Timo Niroma: Sunspots: The 200-year sunspot cycle is also a weather cycle. Until you do, your comments are just a bell clanging.

  33. There’s noting to argue about. The day Perry sells his cars, removes the heaters and air conditioning from his home and unplugs the refrigerator, TV’s, computers etc. and actually practices saving the planet from man made global warming then he can talk. There are some who make their living by farming the land, more or less literally, and trading the products they drive from this work; and then there are others whose survival strategy, based on physical and social insinuation, interpersonal deception, and political coercion, is focused on farming the farmers. We call this latter class of organisms, modern liberals.

  35. I note that his argument has not been accepted by the Climatologists,

Perry, global warming is a religion, if you don’t believe, you’re a heretic. Timo doesn’t play their game, so therefore his data is useless to them. Dana likes the traffic, and Perry draws opposition comments like train wrecks draw gawkers.”

I think that we can probably conclude that when fundamental values and worldviews – and frankly, life impulses and interests – are at such variance as they are between conservatives and libertarians on the one hand and the collectivist kind on the other, that no meaningful policy implementation dialog of the kind Dana has been hoping for, will take place.

I hate to have been right in drawing this conclusion, but it was based on years of generally careful prior exchanges with collectivists concluded long before Art Downs ever invited me to visit here.

If Johnathan Haidt the politically liberal psychologist is even figuratively right in his theory of moral tastes, and if evolutionary psychology and genetics have anything to tell us about the nature of human preferences, we are probably about to get some modicum of scientific support for the notion that some people are just congenitally disposed to do better and feel better in a state of freedom, than others.

There could be all kinds of reasons both direct and indirect for this, having to do with everything from physical health and strength, to proneness to anxiety, to reproductive strategies, to a lack of tolerance for being directed, or cheated, or even to Haidt’s psychology of moral sensibilities/tastes.

But if you have a social arrangement wherein one man benefits non-reciprocally from a relationship and from its resulting environment with another man, a created environment which may even turn out to be critical to the first man’s reproductive success or survival, then you have a logical problem in distributively justifying the arrangement to the second man.

The second and non-dependent man simply does not need his ties to the first man in the manner in which the first man needs them; and perhaps the second man needs them not at all.

And that, more or less, is actually were we are, and have been, I believe, for some decades now.

Now the left’s so-called solution to this logic problem is to focus emotionally on “community” and the imagined world [their version of paradise according to their innate tastes] that can be “collectively” created if we are all harnessed and submit to their program and direction. The trouble is multiform. No life competent person wants to be jailed in their promised hothouse of state supervised dysfunction and quivering emotionalism; the goods they promise as a reward for submission are not really worthwhile goods; they cannot be trusted to honestly manage what they say they are trying to create; and the evidence of history shows that they are incompetent to bring about the results they promise, even if they were persons of moral integrity and not engaged in a self-aggrandizing and parasitic scam.

That is why it is impossible for us to reason with them, and they with us. So why bother over the details of the speed and exact means of getting there?

We simply don’t want to go down into the social shithole where they wish to take us, and we do not need them for survival in the way that they need us; or if theoretically not us as producers in particular, then at least some replacement for us. Preferably as they would see it, the replacement would evolve into, or be imported in the form of, a compliant and easily manipulated client class. The problem for them is that their current client class is largely socially useless as producers of anything other than votes and hysteria.

  37. The problem for them is that their current client class is largely socially useless as producers of anything other than votes and hysteria.

Oh just say it, DNW. The leftist bastards are for unfettered immigration to replenish, at least temporarily, some form of productive client class since they have long ago extinguished any desire for productivity from their current crop of “socially useless” victims. Hell, even grape pickers can fill a production gap for a brief time. And as they consume more and more from the government while producing less and less it buys the “collective” some time to figure out who their next victims will be. If their timing is right, the grape pickers should end up as indigent welfare recipients just as a new crop of suckers is identified.

As long as Algore has his jet, Obama has his golf game, Mooshelle has her $12,000 dress and our comrade has his gated community all will be well.

  38. Now the left’s so-called solution to this logic problem is to focus emotionally on “community” and the imagined world [their version of paradise according to their innate tastes] that can be “collectively” created if we are all harnessed and submit to their program and direction.

This explanation of the left wing agenda may be a bit overly complex, except for the last part in bold. When you strip it all down, what the left winger really wants is power and control over others. Their collectivist twaddle is just a means to this end. It’s a means of disarming opponents (meaning: us) and breaking down resistance to their power grab. It’s their way of saying “We don’t want power for its own sake (like previous tyrants), but only for the sake of ‘Society’.”

  39. Their collectivist twaddle is just a means to this end.

You got it Eric. It goes back to your post about “social” this and “social” that. It’s a smoke screen to blind people while they steal their money then their freedom then finally, their hope. Leftists know their ideas can’t dazzle anybody with their brilliance so they are constantly trying to blind us with their bullshit. That’s why they love to refer to themselves as “progressives”. What the hell is “progressive” about adopting the same worn out marxist crap that failed over and over since 1848? How is it “progress” to steal the fruits of the labor of those who work and give it to those who don’t?

  40. And while we’re on the subject of the left’s willing subterfuge, lies and omissions, today former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin was convicted on 20 of 21 counts of corruption and bribery.

USA Today reporter Rick Jervis did a short profile of Nagin in the course of reporting on the convictions. Funny thing, Jervis as a willing accomplice to the lies and distortions of the left omitted the fact that Nagin is a Democrat. That’s standard procedure for reporters when bad news comes down about their chosen ones, especially if he’s a she, a black or a gay. I’ll bet if Nagin were an R the headline would read: Republican Ray Nagin Found Guilty Of 20 Out of 21 Charges of Corruption and Bribery”. More on Page 2,3,4,5 & 7. 41. Ever notice how those who seek control over others have so little control over themselves?

Yes I have ropelight and perhaps it’s the projection of that weakness in themselves that makes them the way they are toward everyone else. As I explained earlier, we God fearing, Freedom loving traditional Americans strive to attain the Seven Virtues while the left wallows in the shit hole of the Seven Sins.

  42. And just so you know what Nagin was convicted of:

The charges detailed more than $200,000 in bribes to the mayor, and his family members allegedly received a vacation in Hawaii; first-class airfare to Jamaica; private jet travel and a limousine for New York City; and cellular phone service. In exchange, businesses that coughed up cash for Nagin and his family won more than $5 million in city contracts, according to the January 2013 indictment.

In a nutshell, he used the opportunity of the Katrina recovery effort to kick city contracts back to any vendors that offered to sweeten the deal, while simultaneously blustering about the incompetence and corruption of everybody else’s post-Katrina commitment. What a swell guy.

Actually, in a nutshell, another incompetent, unqualified, minority, Democrat mayor of a major city (that would be no better than Detroit if not for 3 million tourists a year) sells out his constituents, who will most likely re-elect him when he gets out of prison ala Marion Barry, but I’m the racist for pointing it out.

  43. And just as a little more proof of my assertion the media are a pack of deceitful liars and active Democrat operatives check this out.

BRIAN WILLIAMS: Ray Nagin, the controversial former mayor of New Orleans who rose to public attention during Hurricane Katrina has been convicted on federal charges of corruption and bribery. Found guilty today of accepting payoffs for city contracts, guilty of 20 of the 21 counts against him, he faces decades in prison now, sentencing date has not yet been announced.

They couldn’t contain themselves last week mentioning Trey Radel was a Republican as he resigned from Congress after pleading guilty to cocaine possession, but simply called Nagin “mayor of the city during Katrina.”

The news media is a propaganda arm of the state. Whatever they say or endorse is a lie be it glowball warming or spending cuts….all lies! Anyone who is on their side is a liar, comrade.

  44. The networks joined the USA Today on Wednesday in omitting the party affiliation; last week, the New York Times ran an entire article on Nagin’s trial without mentioning Nagin’s party.

Were you expecting something different? It’s the MSM, you know full well if a Dem Pol was walking and stopped suddenly, the collective MSM would have BROWN NOSES from ……..

  45. Another feather in the cap of “the most transparent” administration in history: The US is now ranked 46th in Press Freedom. We’re now between Romania and Haiti. We add that to falling out of the top ten in economic freedom and BINGO! the country that codified those two concepts no longer stands to represent them. Add 90 million Americans dropped from the labor force, 48 million on food stamps and loosing our AAA credit rating and comrade Obama’s fundamental change is on track for a civil war by 2016. It therefore becomes urgent that Obama’s minions get as may illegals into the US as soon as possible to man the barricades. I figure 30 million new Democrat votes to replace the 30 million they’ve aborted over the past 50 years should do.
