Letter I just sent to Michael Medved
Medved: The Marshal Pétain of the Vichy Republicans.
Okay, the above was over the top and deliberately provocative. Still, in this coming fight over Obamacare and possibly shutting the government down, you and your fellow RINOs are already waving the white flag of surrender before the battle has even begun. The notion is – we can’t win. So? If we’re going to lose, shouldn’t we go down fighting?
A week ago this issue was on your show, and a caller called in and referenced the movie 300, where of course 300 Spartans gloriously fought against a vast Persian army bent on conquest. Of course, the Spartans all died and (technically, at least) lost the battle. But their courage inspired the rest of the Greeks, who later went on to win and preserve their precious freedom.
But then it occurred to me an even better example (because it came out of America history) was the Alamo. Again, a small force defied a much larger force, were slaughtered to the last man, and, technically, lost the battle. But, had you (or Karl Rove) been there, you would have given them a speech to the effect of – “There’s 200 of us and 5,000 of them. We can’t possibly win and if we fight, we’ll all be killed. Given those fact, surrender is a perfectly acceptable alternative”.
