Insanity reigns in London.
In a move that would certainly make our own Founding Fathers shudder in their graves, three men were arrested following the near beheading in London of British soldier Lee Rigby by two machete-wielding lunatic Jihadists. Their crime? Posting allegedly “racist,” “anti-religious” and “offensive” comments on Facebook and Twitter. Yeah, you read that right. They were arrested for expressing themselves and “offending” others.
Now remember what transpired after that infamous video was blamed for the Benghazi terrorist attacks? Shortly after, following Mr. Obama pushing the video narrative during a sycophantic speech to the U.N, that body moved to push a worldwide ban on criticizing Islam, with Mr. Obama’s full support. The resolution would not have banned all religious criticism, just criticism of Islam. Mr. Obama, ever the defender of our Constitutional rights, tried to give away our sovereignty to foreign control. I know what you’re thinking: f*** that. But this silencing of speech is precisely what is now happening to Londoners who dare criticize Islam, spurred by yet another brutal Jihadist attack in their homeland.

WHAT FIRST AMENDMENT? Obama Admin Now Says Criticizing Muslims On Social Media May Violate Civil RightsPosted on 31 May, 2013 by Amy
(Judicial Watch) — In its latest effort to protect followers of Islam in the U.S. the Obama Justice Department warns against using social media to spread information considered inflammatory against Muslims, threatening that it could constitute a violation of civil rights.
The move comes a few years after the administration became the first in history to dispatch a U.S. Attorney General to personally reassure Muslims that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is dedicated to protecting them. In the unprecedented event, Attorney General Eric Holder assured a San Francisco-based organization (Muslim Advocates) that urges members not to cooperate in federal terrorism investigations that the “us versus them” environment created by the U.S. government, law enforcement agents and fellow citizens is unacceptable and inconsistent with what America is all about.
“Muslims and Arab Americans have helped build and strengthen our nation,” Holder said after expressing that he is “grateful” to have Muslims as a partner in promoting tolerance, ensuring public safety and protecting civil rights. He also vowed to strengthen “crucial dialogue” between Muslim and Arab-American communities and law enforcement.
Evidently that was a precursor of sorts for an upcoming Tennessee event (“Public Disclosure in a Diverse Society”) that will feature the region’s top DOJ official, who serves as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and an FBI representative. The goal is to increase awareness and understanding that American Muslims are not the terrorists some have made them out to be in social media and other circles, according to a local newspaper report. The June 4 powwow is sponsored by the American Muslim Advisory Council of Tennessee.

But I’m trying to think of which “Muslims and Arab Americans have helped build and strengthen our nation,” given that Muslims and Arabs are relatively recent arrivals in the United States, and that their numbers were extremely small. Many immigrant populations have made valuable contributions to American society: the Irish, the Italians, the Cubans, the Vietnamese and Japanese and Koreans, the Indians, and many other groups. Arabs? Not so much. And while our First Amendment absolutely protects the rights of anyone to believe what they want and worship as they will, something I would never change, that does not mean that Muslims have made much of a positive contribution to our society.
I just wish that our President, who has sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, realized that the same First Amendment which protects the right of Muslims to believe and worship as they will also protects the right of everyone to believe and say exactly what they will about Muslims, and anyone else.
L D Jackson also addresses the issue.
Phineas noted that Fort Wayne, Indiana, Community Schools District is cutting back on part-time employee hours, to avoid having to cover them under ObaminableCare. And here I thought that our public schools were run by the liberals and the Democrats, the people who supported the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Karen tells us about another slew of bad news for those who thought that the PP&ACA was somehow a good thing. It’s not working out as promised. Oddly enough, Republicans said all along that it would never work.
Stacey Stacy McCain has been all over the #FreeKate story, about accused sex offender Kaitlyn Ashley Hunt. That’s just one link, but at the bottom of the article, the esteemed Mr McCain has links to fifteen other articles he has written on the subject.
My concern is a slightly different one. As we noted here, the rape victim in the Steubenville, Ohio, and Torrington, Connecticut high school rape cases have been further victimized by the friends of the accused rapists. The parents of Miss Hunt were very quick to name the 14 year old girl Miss Hunt is accused of molesting, and even if they had not, information like that does not stay quiet in a small high school setting; my guess is that the victim will face ongoing victimization from the people who like and support Miss Hunt.
Hube is not thrilled with what passes for wisdom in our public education system.
Donald Douglas pointed out the New York Times story which says that women are the “primary breadwinner” in four out of ten households. That Times story needs to be read carefully, because the headline is misleading. Of the 40.4% of families in which the mother is the primary breadwinner (defined as having the larger income), most of them are also the sole breadwinner, being single mothers in almost every one of those cases.
William Teach noted that one of the Infernal Revenue Service agents embroiled in the IRS scandal has been promoted.
That’s all for this week; I completely missed From Around the Blogroll last week, being involved with actual real life.
