NRA Pulls Out of Outdoors Show in Harrisburg Over Banning “Assault” Weapons From the Show

The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show is one of the largest of its kind in the country. In Harrisburg, PA it runs for over a week and it covers every type of outdoor actiivities. Exhibitors come from all over the eastern and central part of the country and Eastern Canada. A large number of gun sellers have exhibits there and make up about 25% to 35% of the exhibitors. This show has fishing, boating, recreational vehicals and trailers, and anyone trying to make a buck on the sportsman. I went last year, and see everything takes two days if you get there early and stay late and stop at every exhibit.

The National Rifle Association has decided to withdraw from the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg.

The decision is based on the ban of “modern sporting rifles” from the Feb. show, according to a press release from the NRA.

Reed Exhibitions, the event’s organizers, announced last week that military-style rifles and high-capacity magazines would not be permitted for display or sale at the event, the Associated Press reported.

The NRA called on Reed Exhibitions to reconsider their decision, stating their participation would hinge on the outcome.

“Unfortunately, (Reed Exhibitions) have steadfastly refused to do so,” the NRA said in a release. “As a result, the NRA will not be participating in the upcoming show in Harrisburg or in any other shows hosted by Reed Exhibitions that maintain this policy.”

Reed Exhibitions is expected to release an updated statement today about their decision, said Deb Davis at Concept One Inc, a public relations firm handling local press for the event.
