1. For those who watch only Obama-shielding network news or CNN or MSNBC, the documented news that the CIA made THREE requests for assistance…and to assist…the beleagured consulate but were ordered by Obama Admin. to STAND DOWN will be a surprise. In light of this news, however, the father of the needlessly slain SEAL is angry & calling those who made the STAND DOWN orders “murderers.”

I understand partisan politics. I am a partisan conservative. However, it is incomprehensible to me that even the most partisan Democrat would consider supporting the presidency of the inept, clueless and dangerously untruthful Barack Obama. If Obama is reelected, I hope he and Hillary Clinton will be investigated and if the evidence proves true, criminally indicted and tried for their crimes.

  2. The problem is that no one took the decision not to try to save his son, because no one took any decisions at all. We know that the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff were watching events, in real time, and discussing their options, but actually did nothing. When WW asked me what I would have done, I said:

I would have had the Marines in the air, in real time, heading for Benghazi. It might have turned out that, before they got there, the situation was over, and any mission had to be aborted. If that would have been the case, well, too bad, at least we were going to try, and we would have been getting our assets to the scene in time to do something if there was anything that could have been done.

But to dither around and do nothing meant that we couldn’t do anything about the situation. That isn’t leadership; that’s incompetence.

But WW would have none of that!

That’s a ridiculous idea, and would have served no good purpose, and may have caused even more trouble.

No, actually trying to rescue our people, why that would have been teh wrong thing to do, and might have caused even more trouble. He continued:

The prudent actions has been taken: Get the facts and act on them. Vow to track down the culprits and do justice. That is exactly what our competent President has done and is doing, as he has done with the terrorists who threaten us, and as he has done with bin Laden.

In other words, don’t bother with actually trying to save our people, but act like law enforcement and try to bring them to justice later.

Whether thoughts like that were going through the minds of the (non)decision-takers in the Administration, I can’t know, but their lack of initiative, their reticence to actually do something, their pusillanimity when facing a serious problem meant that the problem was not addressed, and the best that can be done now is to try to pick up the pieces.

General Martin E. Dempsey, United States Army, is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. As a soldier, he is supposed to know, and live by, the Soldiers Creed, in which the soldier promises, in part, “I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade.” In effect, by doing nothing, general Dempsey left a fallen comrade.

Breaking: Fox News reports CIA command refused to help Benghazi consulate during attack

Yesterday, Leon Panetta told reporters that the US military didn’t intervene to assist our consulate in Benghazi during the attack because of a lack of real-time intelligence. Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin now reports that the CIA got at least three requests for support from the annex in the city to help fend off the attack — and that the chain of command not only refused the requests, but ordered its personnel to “stand down.” Two of the Americans killed in the terrorist attack disobeyed orders and attempted to rescue their fellow Americans:

Fox News has learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that three urgent requests from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. Consulate and subsequent attack nearly seven hours later were denied by officials in the CIA chain of command — who also told the CIA operators to “stand down” rather than help the ambassador’s team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.

Former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were part of a small team who were at the CIA annex about a mile from the U.S. Consulate where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team came under attack. When they heard the shots fired, they radioed to inform their higher-ups to tell them what they were hearing. They were told to “stand down,” according to sources familiar with the exchange. An hour later, they called again to headquarters and were again told to “stand down.”

Woods, Doherty and at least two others ignored those orders and made their way to the Consulate which at that point was on fire. Shots were exchanged. The quick reaction force from the CIA annex evacuated those who remained at the Consulate and Sean Smith, who had been killed in the initial attack. They could not find the ambassador and returned to the CIA annex at about midnight.

At that point, they called again for military support and help because they were taking fire at the CIA safe house, or annex. The request was denied. There were no communications problems at the annex, according those present at the compound. The team was in constant radio contact with their headquarters. In fact, at least one member of the team was on the roof of the annex manning a heavy machine gun when mortars were fired at the CIA compound. The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Specter gunship, which is commonly used by U.S. Special Operations forces to provide support to Special Operations teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours — enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. Fox News has also learned that two separate Tier One Special operations forces were told to wait, among them Delta Force operators.

It’s not as if there was no resources to respond, either:

A Special Operations team, or CIF which stands for Commanders in Extremis Force, operating in Central Europe had been moved to Sigonella, Italy, but they too were told to stand down. A second force that specializes in counterterrorism rescues was on hand at Sigonella, according to senior military and intelligence sources. According to those sources, they could have flown to Benghazi in less than two hours. They were the same distance to Benghazi as those that were sent from Tripoli. Specter gunships are commonly used by the Special Operations community to provide close air support.

Griffin’s sources tell her that the annex had painted a laser target at a terrorist mortar position and had called for an air strike. I’m not sure what that looks like in Panetta’s world, but it at least sounds like real-time intelligence on the attack, as well as a clear target, if this report is correct.

Where was the commander-in-chief when American personnel were under attack? Did his minions not inform him? Was he part of the decision-taking process — which did nothing — and that part is being kept from us? Did he know and just tell Leon Panetta, “Handle it?”

However that question is to be answered, President Obama is responsible for the decisions taken — and not taken — and should be held to account.

#Benghazi Consulate Massacre: Petraeus throws Obama under the bus

I’ve said before the intelligence community will not play the sap for Obama. And now The Weekly Standard reports (via JWF) that CIA Director Petraeus has thrown his boss under the bus:

Breaking news on Benghazi: the CIA spokesman, presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus, has put out this statement: “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. ”

As Bill Kristol writes, the decision to do nothing in Benghazi had to have been a presidential decision. (If not, that has its own scary implications.)

This is unraveling fast. You can bet more will come out before the election.

The spooks won’t play the sap.

Petraeus Throws Obama Under the Bus

Breaking news on Benghazi: the CIA spokesman, presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus, has put out this statement: “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.

So who in the government did tell “anybody” not to help those in need? Someone decided not to send in military assets to help those Agency operators. Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No.

It would have been a presidential decision. There was presumably a rationale for such a decision. What was it? When and why—and based on whose counsel obtained in what meetings or conversations—did President Obama decide against sending in military assets to help the Americans in need?

  7. The following excerpt if from Bob Owens at PJ Media posted 10/26/12

AC-13OU Gunship Was On-Scene in Benghazi, Ogama Admin Refused to Let It Fire (updated)

The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Specter gunship, which is commonly used by U.S. Special Operations forces to provide support to Special Operations teams on the ground involved in intense firefights…

There were two AC-130Us deployed to Libya in March as part of Operation Unified Protector.

The AC-130U is a very effective third-generation fire-support aircraft, capable of continuous and extremely accurate fire onto multiple targets. It has been used numerous times in Iraq and Afghanistan to save pinned-down allied forces, and has even been credited with the surrender of the Taliban city of Kunduz

It was purpose-built for a select number of specific mission types, including point-defense against enemy attack. It was literally built for the kind of mission it could have engaged in over Benghazi, if the administration had let it fire. As the excerpt above clearly shows, we had assets on the ground “painting” the targets with the laser…

There are two state-of-the-art fire-control systems (FCSs) in a AC-130U, using television sensors, infrared sensors, and synthetic aperture strike radar. These fire control systems can see through the dark of night, clouds, and smoke.

The two FCSs on the AC-130U control a 25mm Gatling gun for area suppression, a precision 40mm cannon, and a 105mm cannon which can engage hard targets.

What this means is that we have the forces in the air and on the ground to have stopped the attack at any point, eliminating the terrorists and saving American lives…

Update: BlackFive confirmed with a retired Delta operator: The fact that ground personnel were painting the target says there was a Spectre on station.

From the comments: Having spent a good bit of time nursing a GLD (ground Laser Designator) in several garden spots around the world, something from the report jumped out at me. One of the former SEALs was actively painting the target. That means that Specter WAS ON STATION! Probably an AC130U. A ground laser designator is not a briefing pointer laser. You do not “paint” a target until the weapons system/designator is synched; which means that the AC130 was on station. Only two places could have called off the attack at that point; the WH situation command (based on POTUS direction) or AFRICOM commander based on information directly from the target area. If the AC130 never left Sigonella (as Penetta [sic] says) that means that the Predator that was filming the whole thing was armed. If that SEAL was actively “painting” a target; something was on station to engage! And the decision to stand down goes directly to POTUS!
