Bucking Convention
Some Democratic incumbents in need of independent voters are skipping the DNC
By Dan Hirschhorn Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Vulnerable Democrats looking to distance themselves from President Obama have found an easy way to bolster their independent bona fides: just skip Obama’s big party.

At least half a dozen Democratic officials have said in recent days that they won’t attend the Democratic National Convention this September in Charlotte, North Carolina, where the president will formally receive the party’s nomination for a second term. The latest: New York Democratic Reps. Bill Owens and Kathy Hochul, both of whom won special elections in recent years – in 2009 and 2011, respectively – that were heralded by party leaders.

“I guarantee that my time will be better spent meeting the farmers, small business owners and other people who put me here,” Hochul told The Daily today.

A spokesman for Owens gave a similar explanation.

“He just has a packed schedule back home,” he said.

    A observation:

There actually may be a few independent voters, and they or may not be registered as Independents or as unaffiliated or as something other than members of established political parties. But, true independents are few in number and thus likely to play a minor role in the upcoming presidential election.

Few in number, the influence of independents is further reduced in high turn-out elections. Same with so-called moderates, who exist in the minds of political pundits and wishful thinkers but vanish like smoke in the wind as election day approaches.

None of which prevents unscrupulous incumbents from pretending to be independent when the signature policies of their party are unpopular with voters. Harry Reid is an excellent example, when he ran for reelection in 2004 his membership in the Democrat Party was missing from his campaign advertisements. To read his mailers or see his billboards an uninformed voter would get the carefully contrived impression that good ol’ Harry Reid had never even met a Democrat let alone voted for any of their left-wing programs.

Today, there’s endless of talk of independents and how they hold the keys to victory on election day but they’re sure hard to find if you go looking for one in the flesh.

That seems to be Limbaugh’s position. He says Republicans should stop listening to pundits and other “Experts” who say the GOP needs to cater to the middle (whatever that is).

What’s a moderate? In the end, it’s a person who stands for nothing but themselves. Their principles are like nailing Jello on the wall and have a spine of a jellyfish. But it’s an opinion.

There are no moderates in today’s politicized environment, once upon a time there may have been a few self-identified moderates, maybe even quite a few, but no more. These days moderates are as scarce as truthful Democrats.

Today’s 24 hour news cycle and the corruption of mainstream journalism into nothing less than the dedicated propaganda wing of the Democrat Party have so polarized politics at both the local and national levels that middle ground has all but vanished like a low tump at flood tide.

In addition, the Left’s economic policies have focused on increasingly injecting divisive elements of class warfare into domestic politics, while at the same time fanning the flames of racial hatred especially among the nation’s young, union members, and minority constituencies.

Any remaining moderates have been faced with the Democrat’s ugly ultimatum: if you aren’t for us, then we’re against you!

One of the talking heads show has a graphic with MSDNC to look like MSNBC. But someone also coined PMSNBC.

York, they can change the names and pretend to be objective journalists all they want, but the truth is they’re low-down belly crawlin’ two-faced skunks and anyone who’s paying attention can always tell ‘um by the putrid smell of Democrat Party corruption.

Once you get a whiff, no one ever forgets the stench.
