One of my best friends in college was a guy named Wayne (whom I shall not identify more closely), a 1970 graduate of Mt Sterling High School, a year ahead of your Editor. He was drafted out of engineering school, with a 3.5 in electrical engineering, and spent some quality time with the United States Army, in Germany, I believe.
I kind of lost track of Wayne after that, but after the Army he returned to the University of Kentucky and finished his degree. I got in contact with Wayne (sort of) when some of the Class of 1971 found me on Facebook, as they were preparing for our class’ 40th year reunion.
I never met Wayne’s wife, Monica, but saw on Facebook that today is their 30th wedding anniversary, as Wayne posted this video to tell his lovely wife just how he felt about her, 30 years later:
After more than a decade living amongst the Yankees, it’s a pleasure to hear someone who doesn’t have an accent!
Happy Anniversary, Wayne and Monica!

At Wayne’s parents’ house in Mt Sterling, they had a typical small-town Kentucky basketball goal: a hoop and a backboard nailed up on the front of teh garage. The hoop was about 9′ 8″ tall, had no net, and the stone driveway sloped down to the garage rather than away from it; Mt Sterling is situated on some fairly rolling land. We played a few games there.
