When Western multiculturalism and sexual equality meets with Arab culture

Via Donald Douglas, I saw this article from Pamela Gellar of Atlas Shrugs:

Sharia Revolution: Journalists Raped by “Freedom Protesters” in Egypt

More of the poisonous fruit from the sharia spring in Egypt (and Tunisia, Libya, Yemen etc.) The media loving ‘Arab spring’ must be wrestling with how to “frame” this news story. They will lie, omit and abet the crimes of sharia rapists. How dare these ridiculous fantasists send female reporters into these Islamic misogynist cultures?

A few months back Lara Logan suffered the same treatment under the new sharia Egypt.

“This is about freedom”, Lara Logan declared before she was set upon and raped by marauding Muslims.

Egypt rape Figaro is reporting:

A reporter with France 3 has been violently beaten and raped today in Tahrir Square as she was doing her job.

Caroline Sinz said that she and her cameraman Salah Agrabi were trapped in a street close to the square near the Interior Ministry where while filming in Mohamed Mahnoud St were attacked by “youths” of 14-15 years of age and grabbed, beaten, raped….  (hat tip Armaros)

Journalists reveal harrowing sexual assaults in Egypt SMH.com

Two female foreign journalists have described harrowing sexual assaults carried out by crowds or police as they tried to cover demonstrations in Cairo’s Tahrir Square.

Egyptian-American journalist Mona Eltahawy said she was sexually assaulted by police during hours under detention after taking part in protests on the sprawling square that has become a landmark of the Arab Spring.

“Besides beating me, the dogs of [central security forces] subjected me to the worst sexual assault ever,” Eltahawy said on her Twitter account.

Mona Eltahawy ... allegedly sexually assaulted while in detention. “5 or 6 surrounded me, groped and prodded my breasts, grabbed my genital area and I lost count how many hands tried to get into my trousers,” she said.

“My left arm and right hand are broken [according] to xrays,” she said, posting pictures of herself in casts.

Earlier Eltahawy, an award-winning journalist and public speaker on Arab and Muslim issues based in New York, tweeted that she had been released after having been beaten and arrested in the interior ministry building.

Put bluntly, Western ideas of gender equality are not part of the Arab Middle Eastern culture, nor part of Islamic culture. The legal and cultural restrictions on women vary by country, from what the Taliban used to enforce in Afghanistan — and still try to enforce in the areas they still rule — where girls are not to be educated and can leave the home only with a proper male escort, to their inability to drive legally in Saudi Arabia. And in a chaotic situation such as the Egyptian riots, both now and during the “Arab Spring” movement which deposed Hosni Mubarak, women acting as journalists have not been safe from the crowds on which they were attempting to report.

So, what’s a modern, Western assignment editor to do? If he uses his discretion, and sends only male reporters to cover these events, he is engaging in sexual discrimination, which would be illegal in most Western countries. But if he is indiscriminate, and sends female reporters into situations in which they are more greatly at risk of being assaulted, including sexually assaulted, by the rampaging crowds, is he not partially responsible, and potentially liable, for sending them into situations of greater risk?

For all that Egypt has given to the world in math and the sciences, it was all chucked out the window for their rollback to the 7th century. They may be somewhat modern in appearance, but their heads are still stuck up their you whats loving the 7th centuryrules to live by.

If an Arab woman was walking down the street in a Burqua with just eye slits and a Klansman was walking with her fully robed, who would get the crap from the masses????

Let’s just say freedom and democracy took a hit in Egypt this week with a Majority Win for the Muslim Brotherhood. Please reset your clocks to the 7th Century.
